Parisians and their style

She knows the best how to show (and live!) effortless  and nonchallant Parisian chic. Caroline de Maigret, the author of the popular book “How To Be Parisian Wherever You Are”.  I have read the book and I can recommend it for long winter evening.

Ona wie najlepiej, jak pokazać lekko nonszalancki paryski styl. Co więcej, ona nim żyje! Caroline de Maigret, autorka dość popularnej książki "Bądź paryżanką gdziekolwiek jesteś". Czytałam i mogę ją polecić na któryś z długich zimowych wieczorów.

  

Caroline is the granddaughter of Prince Michel Poniatowski (Polish origin!), and the daughter of Count Bertrand de Maigret. In the nineties Caroline worked as a model, walking for Chanel, Balenciaga and Marc Jacobs. Then she quit it to come back with style a couple of years ago to compete (with great success) with much younger girls.

Caroline jest prawnuczką księcia Michela Poniatowskiego (polskie korzenie!) i córką hrabiego Bertranda de Maigret. W latach dziewięćdziesiatych ubiegłego wieku pracowała jako modelka, chodziła miedzy innymi dla Chanel, Balenciagi i Marca Jacobsa. Potem zrezygnowała z tej pracy, by kilka lat temu znów do niej powrócić i z powodzeniem rywalizować z dużo młodszymi koleżankami.

She says, she doesn’t have clothes for special occasions - everything she owns is for the now. Her best style advice is:  "Dress as if you’ll meet the man of your life anytime, anywhere." And her style is just a confirmation of this motto.

Mówi, że nie ma rzeczy na specjalne okazje; wszystko co ma to zwykłe rzeczy 'na teraz'. Jej najlepsza rada dotycząca stylu to "Ubieraj się zawsze tak, jakbyś miała spotkać mężczyznę swojego życia". I jej styl znakomicie potwierdza to motto.

When I look at her I admire how great and stylish she looks in every piece of wardrobe she puts on: from jeans to elegant clothes. And then I realize this is true, what Coco Chanel was saying, that "fashion changes but style endures". So very true.

Kiedy na nią patrzę, podziwiam, jak stylowo wygląda we wszystkim, co ma na sobie: od dżinsów po eleganckie rzeczy. I dochodzę do wniosku, ze miała rację Coco Chanel mówiąc, że "moda przemija, ale styl pozostaje". Najprawdziwsza prawda.

How to look chic even if you don't wear Prada

Going through the pages (or websites) of Vogue or Harper's BAZAAR you might think the authors assume an average person can spend $1,000 every month on shoes and buy a new coat (or several coats!) every season. In reality it's not possible. These magazines are to inspire your personal style. Here, based on what I read here and there, I've gathered some useful tips on how to make your clothes look chic, even when they aren't expensive. Some of these tips might seem obvious (but require going an extra mile), while others can be a novelty. So read and then look how Miranda Kerr does it.

Przeglądając Vogue albo Harper's BAZAAR można by pomysleć, że autorzy artykułów myślą, że przeciętną osobę stać na to, żeby co miesiąc wydać 1000 dolarów na ciuchy i buty, i że co sezon kupuje nowy płaszcz. Niestety nie zawsze jest to możliwe.Te wszystkie magazyny to ma być inspiracja dla kształtowania naszego osobistego stylu. Poczytałam tu i ówdzie i zebrałam kilka porad, które sprawią, że nasz wygląd będzie szykowny nawet, jesli rzeczy nie są specjalnie drogie. Niektóre z tych porad mogą się wydawać oczywistością (choć czasem mogą wymagać dodatkowego wysiłku), inne moga się okazać nowością (dla niektórych z Was). Poczytajcie więc i potem popatrzcie jak to robi Miranda Kerr.

Tip #1: Make friends with a tailor in the neighborhood.

Instead of wearing your last buy straight away, take an extra two days from purchase to have your neighborhood tailor correct it a little bit for you if needed. It will elevate the final product way beyond its original price. One of my friends always went to a tailor to make her jeans narrow as she had very slim legs (lucky her). It applies to dresses too.

 

Tip #2: Press your clothes.

Isn't it something your grandma was telling you? The extra ten minutes to steam or press your look will add instant wow effect to even your worn clothes.

 

Tip #3: Invest in some good accessories.

Good accessories change the entire look and can make it exceptional. Don't be afraid of adding some gold to your ordinary outfit, buy a nice looking good quality bag.

 

Tip #4: All white or all black - choose one you like most.

Two most fashionable colors. Additionally monochrome outfit never look unintentional. This is the tip I often use myself - white in the summer, black for the rest of the year.

 

Tip #5: Use a belt.

Wearing a plain dress or a baggy sweater mark your waist with a chic belt for maximum impact. Make it genuine leather - it will look great.

 

Tip #6: Your handbag should be neat.

No matter if you have a handbag from a popular shop or a Birkin, make sure it looks neat, clean and shiny. It will elevate your look for sure.

 

Tip #7: Hair and makeup - your greatest assets.

Shiny hair, flawless skin and lipstick - these are the ultimate finishing touches. This is what all people passing by will see! Make sure they look the way you like it. Every day. Have you ever seen Miranda Kerr without makeup or with disorganized hair?

 

Tip #8: Good, timeless jacket or coat is your best friend.

Focus on purchasing coats that are forever: black leather jacket, classic camel, belted trench, raw denim - they will make any outfit look great.

 

Tip #9: Make your denim look smart.

Add heels to your jeans and keep the washes classic. White or black shirt and jeans always look good. And this is one of the simplest tricks.

 

Tip #10: Match your bag and your shoes.

To make the outfit look intentional make them the same color.

After skiing

And after skiing...

After skiing we usually go to one of the neigboring towns to have a walk, or some good pizza (in a pizzeria owned and run by an Italian) or to have some dessert ;)

Usual outfit for such occasions has to be comfortable first of all.

So I chose jeans, flat boots, yellow down jacket and a cap in similar colors.

Great advantage of the jacket is that is's light and warm and... it shines with it's own light.

A po nartach...

Po nartach lubimy przejechać się do jednego z pobliskich miasteczek i zrobić sobie spacer, albo zjeść dobrą pizzę (w pizzerii prowadzonej przez Włocha) albo zafundować sobie deser ;)

Na takie okazje ubieram się tak, żeby mi było wygodnie - to pierwsze kryterium doboru stroju.

Wybrałam więc dżinsy, krótkie kozaczki na płaskim obcasie i żółtą puchową kurtkę i czapkę w podobnych kolorach.
Wielką zaletą tej kurtki jest to, że jest lekka i ciepła i dodatkowo... świeci swoim własnym światłem.

Skiing

Greetings from Austria!

Winter without skiing would not be a complete winter ;)

We went to Austria, to the place we visit for a couple of years now to spend some time on the fresh air. And to try Tirol cuisine!

Great place, I'm telling you.

From the outfit point of view nothing really new (especially for those of you who have seen my last year's post about skiing). My usual outfit still fits well, is comfortable and I like it so no changes in this area yet.

This is more to show you the atmosphere and views.

Pzdrowienia z Austrii!

Zima bez nart nie byłaby prawdziwą zimą ;)

Pojechaliśmy do Austrii w miejsce znane nam od kilku lat, żeby spędzić trochę czasu na świeżym powietrzu. No i żeby popróbowac specjałów kuchni tyrolskiej!

Mówię Wam, świetne miejsce.

Z punktu widzenia ubioru - nic nowego (szczególnie dla tych z Was, którzy widzieli mój zeszłoroczny post o nartach). Moje rzeczy wciąż są wygodne i lubię je, więc jeszcze nie czas na zmiany. Więc tym razem bardziej o atmosferze, jaka tam panuje, i o widokach.

Oakley Hall

Have you heard of Jane Austen? Or maybe read her books?
Pride and Prejudice? Sense and Sensibility? or Mansfield Park?
That's her!
Let me take you to a magical place in Hampshire, UK.


Słyszeliście o Jane Austen? A może czytaliście jej książki?
"Duma i uprzedzenie"? "Rozważna i romantyczna"? a może "Mansfield Park"?
Właśnie o nią chodzi.
Zabieram Was dzisiaj w magiczne miejsce w hrabstwie Hampshire w Wielkiej Brytanii.

Oakley Hall was built in 1795 and remembers Jane Austen times. She lived in the nearby village and was a frequent visitor to Oakley Hall. Mrs Bramston, the then owner of the mansion,  provided the inspiration for the character Lady Bertram in her novel, Mansfield Park, and it’s being said that other elements of Oakley Hall found their way into the book too.
The mansion was restored in 2014 and brought back to its full Georgian glory.

Oakley Hall został wybudowany w 1795 roku i pamięta czasy Jane Austen. Autorka mieszkała w pobliskiej wsi i była tu częstym gościem. Pani Bramson, ówczesna właścicielka posiadłości, była inspiracją dla postaci Lady Bertram w jej powieści "Mansfield Park". Podobno inne elementy Oakley Hall także zostały tam opisane.
Posiadłość została odnowiona w 2014 r. i przywrócono jej cały georgiański urok.

You think this is just another hotel? Not exactly.

 Oakley Hall is not only the buildings but also beautiful gardens which we can still admire.
It's very unfortunate I could see them just in January when the nature is dormant, but I hope to be back here in other seazon specifically to enjoy gardens ;)

Myślicie, że to po prostu kolejny hotel? Nie zupełnie.

Oakley Hall to nie tylko budynki, ale także piękne ogrody, które też można podziwiać.

Niestety mogłam je zobaczyć w styczniu, kiedy przyroda jest w uśpieniu, ale mam nadzieję tu wrócić w bardziej sprzyjającej porze roku, żeby nacieszyć się też ogrodem ;)

No i mój pokój. Tak na marginesie, podoba mi się, że to co pokazują na stronie hotelu wygląda w rzeczywistości tak samo!

On their website I found the following sentence: 'You may never want to leave!' and after being there just once I agree 100%.

Na stronie hotelu znalazłam zdanie: "Możesz nie chcieć stąd wyjeżdżać!" i zgadzam się z tym w 100% po mojej pierwszej wizycie.
