More postcards from Milan

Let me share with you my joy: here I come to Milan again!!
Here you can find previous post from visiting Milan.

This time the visit is a little bit different because it's warmer.

The city is full of people walking, talking, sitting in cafes, drinking coffee and eating ice cream.

Tutaj znajdziecie mój poprzedni post z wyjazdu do Mediolanu.
Tym razem wizyta trochę inna bo jest cieplej.
Miasto jest pełne ludzi spacerujących, rozmawiających ze sobą, siedzących w kawiarniach, popijających kawę i jedzących lody.

Charming place to visit and the icon of the city: Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II

This is the place where boutiques of the most well known fashion brands in the world are located:

Prada, Louis Vuitton, Versace  or Gucci - just to name a few.

Look at the atmosphere and try to imagine how nice it is! 

Although it's really crowded, people walk, talk and still have time to sit in one of the cafe's or restaurants here and enjoy coffee alone or in a good company.

And... watch people passing by :)

Other people, including me, believe that if they turn three times in one specific place of the Gallery, it will let them come here again:

Inni - nie wyłączając mnie - wierzą, że jeśli w jednym z miejsc obrócą się trzykrotnie, pozwoli im to wrócić tu ponownie:

  

And look at the floor: isn't it beautiful?

But it's not only shopping what makes people come to this city: it's also its sheer beauty.

Nie tylko zakupy przyciągają ludzi do tego miasta:samo  jego piękno jest częstym powodem.

And now - let's change perspective.
When I heard of this restaurant - located next to Duomo Cathedral - my first thought was: this must be a great place.
This thought was immediately followed by the second one: it must be crowded and without character because it is created for tourists only.
How delighted and positively surprised I was when I finally got there!
From this perspective Duomo looks like no other building in the whole world...

And by the way, the food is also delicious!

Postcards from Milan

Milan - city of fashion, design and culture. I always wanted to have a walk on the streets of Milan - for me this is the best way of feeling a city. I was there at the beginning of March, the day was sunny but pretty cold. I have prepared a list of must-see sites and started my walk in the morning. Here is what I had on my list:

La Scala Opera: I think I don't have to explain this is world-renowned opera house, where many composers wrote and conducted works including such greats as Rossini, Puccini, Verdi and Toscanini. Perfect place for opera lovers but also for those who like 18th century architecture. 

Mediolan to wielki ośrodek mody, wzornictwa i kultury. Zawsze chciałam przejść się jego ulicami (długie spacery ulicami miasta to dla mnie najlepszy sposób na poczucie jego atmosfery). Byłam tam na początku marca, dzień był słoneczny, ale dość zimny. Oczywiście przygotowałam listę miejsc, które trzeba zobaczyć i wyruszyłam na ich poszukiwanie z samego rana. Oto kilka z nich.

Opera La Scala. Miłośnikom opery chyba nie muszę wyjaśniać, że jest to światowej sławy teatr gdzie pracowało wielu wybitnych twórców takich jak Rossini, Puccini, Verdi czy Toscanini. Budynek teatru to przykład architektury osiemnastowiecznej:

Then I crossed Piazza della Scala and went into Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II:

Here you can admire belle époque splendor. This extravagant 19th-century glass-topped tunnel now serves as shopping mall - lively, colorful and noisy. There you can spend hours watching people, have some good shopping and spend good time in many restaurants and bars. Isn't it beautiful?

To prawdziwy splendor belle époque! Ekstrawagancki 19-wieczny tunel pokryty szklanym dachem służy teraz jako centrum handlowe - ruchliwe, pełne kolorów i hałaśliwe. Można tu spędzać całe godziny obserwując ludzi, robiąc wspaniałe zakupy, a także siedząc w licznych restauracjach i kawiarniach. Czyż nie jest to piękna budowla?

If you continue walking you will finally approach Piazza del Duomo with the symbol of Milan - The Duomo Cathedral. The huge square is a meeting place, a place for strolling, walking across or sitting in one of the cafes along the edge, and just enjoying the view and delicious Italian coffee.

The Duomo Cathedral is the third largest Catholic Church in the world after St Peter’s in Rome and the Seville Cathedral. Its construction took almost 600 years to build. Its predominant style is late Gothic, with its many spires and statues. Beautiful - just have a look:

Prosto z Galerii wychodzi się na Piazza Duomo, na którym znajduje się symbol Mediolanu - Katedra Duomo. Wielki plac to miejsce spotkań, spacerów albo czasu spędzanego w wielu okolicznych kawiarniach przy wspaniałej włoskiej kawie.

Katedra Duomo to trzeci największy kościół na świecie po Bazylice Św. Piotra w Rzymie i katedrze w Sewilli. Jego budowa zajęła prawie 600 lat. Przeważający styl to gotyk z licznymi wieżycami i statuami. Wspaniała - zresztą sami popatrzcie:

When you walk away from the square you will see the Cathedral from the distance, above other buildings:

Then I had a walk through Corso di Porta Ticinese

which is a famous shopping street full of cute vintage shops where you can find the most unique items. I had a look at the neighboring streets:

And my long walk brought me to see The Colonne di San Lorenzo which is the best-known Roman ruin in Milan. It is located in front of the Basilica of San Lorenzo. It is a square with a row of columns, which were taken from a temple or public bath house dating from the 2nd century. Amazing view.

Mój spacer zaprowadził mnie do Colonne di San Lorenzo. Są to najbardziej znane ruiny Rzymskie w Mediolanie i znajdują się przed Bazyliką di San Lorenzo. Jest to plac na którym wznosi się rząd kolumn które pochodzą z budynku łaźni publicznej datowanej na II wiek naszej ery. Wspaniały widok.

Porta Ticinese  is a former city gate of Milan - still looking good, isn't it?
